Artist Statement

I create print designs that are intended to be applied to products that elicit cheer in a bright and colorway way and am inspired by both my travels as well as everyday moments in time.  My process of design begins with viewing photos I have taken that have inspired me in the past, spirited or not, and finding ways for that moment in time to become more upbeat. Taking inspiration from abstract and collage artists such as Matisse and Sonia Delaunay, I  create for contemporary trends. Using a range of materials from paper, gouache, scissors, glue and digital software, my textile designs use shape. color and texture in an interactive and playful way. As all of my prints are initially drawn, painted, and collaged by hand then later edited and repeated digitally, the element of the hand is seen in each brush stroke and hand done process. I am motivated every day to create with the goal of bringing cheer to the viewer of my work, and to create unexpected moments of happiness in everyday life. I use the mediums of hand painting and cut and paste collage, as the action of creating with paint and paper by hand is a spirited act in itself, and therefore translates to the finished design. Designing in this manner allows more room for creative freedom. Knitting together the idea of designing prints that can be applied to both fashion and interiors allows me to create artwork that can be seen on many substrates and end products.
